Psychologist drawn into couple’s child custody dispute

Divorced or separated couples in Dayton may often still maintain a high level of animosity towards each other. These bad feelings may only be heightened when the issue of child custody comes into play. For all of the emotion (both good and bad) that people feel towards their exes, it may pale in comparison to the feelings they have for their children. When those two aspects cross during custody hearings, bitter and tense proceedings may often be the result.

Oftentimes other parties may be dragged into such disputes. That appears to be the case in a custody battle currently taking place in New York between a former model and the wealthy property trader with whom she shares an 11-year old daughter. The woman is fighting to reverse a decision which cut her off from having contact with the girl after her ex accused her of sniffing inhalants. Her latest action has been to accuse the psychologist that the couple had agreed to help coordinate their custody arrangement of colluding with her ex to undermine her attempts to adhere to it. She claims that the doctor placed several unreasonable restrictions on her in regard to her contact with her daughter, even to the point of monitoring the pair’s bedtime routines. She goes on to say in her lawsuit that she reluctantly followed these rules out of fear of being accused of child abuse if she refused.

Given the potential for child custody proceedings to become contentious, one might be wise to prepare him or herself to either respond to accusations or present a case of misconduct without becoming overwhelmed in all of the emotion involved in his or her hearing. Having an experienced an attorney on one’s side might make such a challenge much easier to accomplish.
